Last night if went to my first ever Seattle Mariners game, and that’s because I don’t live in Seattle. A guy I work with, Sean Meadows, his girlfriend, Amy, was able to score some tickets from the Childrens Hospital in Seattle where she works. I was like a kid in a candy store, I was so happy to be there.
First I have to tell you that the stadium is one of the best I have ever been in. It’s also one of the most expensive, but regardless one of the coolest. So I got there a little early and saw that parking at Safeco Field is like $20, so with the ever rising cost of gas and beer, I decided that a twenty spot was too much and drove around a little. Good thing I did, because I found parking for $10 and it was only a little walking distance from the main enterance. So I parked, walked in and started to navigate my new surroundings.
The lower level is totally awesome, in the outfield, behind the bullpen is sort of “Fan Fest” kinda atmosphere. It’s really cool, with a radar gun for fans, and some really nice places to get something to eat and drink. So I kinda milled around there for a while until I got thirsty and decided it might be a good time to start looking for my seat. I made my way up to section 328 and was totally impressed by the seats Amy had gotten for us. They were awesome, and the best part was that the weather was so nice and clear that I could see almost the whole Seattle skyline from my seat. So not only could I see the entire field from where I was sitting, but I could see inside of Qwest Field (Seahawks play there).
The crowd in Seattle is pretty cool too. They know their baseball, but they don’t seem to be a really rowdy crowd, although the Blue Jays did beat the pants off them, and it really wasn’t a close game. So I guess this would be the reason for nothing getting out of hand. Anyway it was a really good time, Amy Marquez and her daughter Ariana also joined us, so the company was good, the seats were awesome, and the game - well it was baseball so who can complain.
I can’t wait to go again tonight and experience it all over again.
