2 New iTunes tricks

November 7th, 2006 · No Comments

Just about everyone you know has an iPod these days, and to use the iPod you almost certainly use iTunes to manage your playlists. So here are two tricks that can save you lots of time when it comes to trying to figure out some of the cooler features of iTunes.
One thing I really like to do is create my own CD’s from songs I have in my playlist and mix them in a way that makes them seem as though they are just on one continuous track. You know the way the DJ’s make it sound when your in a club, they kinda just fade into each other. Navigate to Preferences -> Playback and you’ll notice an option called Crossfade Playback, and a sliding scale from 1 to 12. This is the time that the old track starts to fade out and the new one starts to come in. I set mine for the full 12 seconds after playing with it a lot. But the choice is of course yours.
The second trick is along the same lines, of the first trick, but it has more to do with importing a mix cd. Everyone has had to have purchased a mix cd once in their lifetime. I know I’ve bought a few and wish I hadn’t, but anyway, say you have one now, and would really like to bring that into iTunes as one large track. This is very simple and really only takes a few seconds. Put your CD in and before you import anything, highlight the tracks you want to join and go to Advanced -> Join CD Tracks. And now your done. See it’s that simple.
