With the purchase of your Zune, Microsoft has upped the antie by giving you a 14 day subscription to their music store (MarketPlace). Here’s the catch with Zune Pass, the free subscription is a whole two weeks, which is pretty generous considering all the artists that are available to you. Also with the free pass, you can download anything you want and listen to it on your computer or Zune, however, after the 14 days are up, so is the ability to to listen to these songs. I tried to burn a cd from what I downloaded and that didn’t work either, as it shouldn’t, but what did work was the ability to share my new music with another Zune user. Which in my opinion is one of the coolest features of this device. There are many different flavors of the Zune Pass, so that’s where you have to make the decision as to what kind of user you are going to be. They have a pay as you go and an all-you-can-eat, personally I prefer the all-you-can-eat so that I can download anything I want, whenever I want and it’s mine as long as I hold a valid Zune Pass subscription. So for those music junkies who always like to hear the newest stuff, this is the way to go.
So when you purchase that new Zune (because I know you are), go ahead and enjoy the free 14 days subscription. Then sign up for a Zune Pass and enjoy new music and videos whenever you want.
