American Idol Sucks

January 18th, 2007 · No Comments

So I watched the first two nights of American Idol on Fox, and I have to say it’s one of the worse ever. Amazingly enough I was in Seattle during the airing of these episodes and the local media isn’t too excited about the comments that Simon made about the talent in this town. Cowell said “the worst bunch of miserable singers” that he’s ever heard in his life, and that it was “two days of total misery”. From what I saw on TV there really wasn’t that much talent in Washington, some of the winners even came from other locations like, Texas and California. I guess the way to do it is go somewhere that doesn’t have that much talent and try to be just a little bit better than average.
However the real reason that AI sucks, is for the same reason that The Apprentice sucks too. For two days we watched young people give their best shot at super stardom, however most don’t have the talent to make the big time. Give these kids credit, they went for it, and have nothing to hang their heads about, they at least gave it a shot. The judges however, really turned me off. American Idol has no more respect for it’s contestants than Donald Trump does for his. To sit in front of a young adult and make fun of them is fairly immature. I really shouldn’t expect much from these three, Randy apparently has no control of what he puts in his mouth, Paula seems whacked most of the time and Simon is trying to play the foreign villain as good as any.
As much as I like to laugh at funny things, I don’t find it funny to humiliate fellow humans for having the courage to do something they have their heart set on. A certain amount of terrible singing is amusing for a little while, but when you start calling kid’s names and making fun of them to their face, it really makes one wonder what the point of the show is. Is it to crush the souls of people? Or is to find the next great 1 hit wonder?
So please Fox, show us less of the Plumpy, Drunky, and Grumpy, and show us those who at least have a good story.
