So I was one of the lucky few who actually got a ticket to go see the concert of all concerts this summer. The line up of bands was incredible, yet I didn’t expect the “Big” bands to give us a show like they did. While previous Wennie Roasts were packed with outstanding bands, this one had an afternoon lineup that knocked your socks off. I can actually say that there wasn’t one band that sucked, nope not in this line up. I started off by watching Silversun Pickups, and yes they rocked, especially during their big hit “Lazy Eye”, Brian Aubert launched into a solo at the end of the song and their set, that made them candidates for best second stage show. It’s a good thing they don’t let me give out rewards huh.
But by far the biggest hit was Social Distortion. I can honestly say I don’t think there was another band on the bill that everyone was singing along too, in addition to crowd involvement they might have played the tightest set of them all.
Although for me Social Distortion was the biggest hit, the others that played on the main stage were not to shabby. Queens of the Stone Age, were awesome, playing some new stuff and really good old stuff. Rise Against was another favorite that played stuff that was so hard I thought the guy next to me was going to loose his head by all the head banging he was doing. Interpol was good, although I didn’t know a lot of their songs, they still sounded great. One of the best surprises was Incubus and their two man band. They filled in where the Killers left off or should I say because the Killers didn’t show up. The last two groups of the night were as good as any other band including Social D. First was Korn with their new drummer and they couldn’t have been louder and heavier. After Korn was the final group Linkin Park. Both were awesome and all three of the final bands could have been the headliners.
So in all, this years Weenie Roast was the best I have been to yet, but I wouldn’t put it past KROQ to put on an even better show next year. I guess you’ll just have to check back next year to see how it goes.
