How to switch to the 120GB Xbox 360 HD

May 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

So you have just purchased a new Xbox 360 120 GB drive and you need to move all your existing content from your old 20GB to the new one. Well, like all upgrades, moving data isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but rest assured, I’m here to help make it easier for you.

Before we do this, there are few things that you need to be aware of before we start our little project.

  • You can only transfer the data from the smaller drive to the larger drive. You can’t swap data back and forth unfortunately.
  • You can only transfer the data ONCE. So once you do it successfully, it’s over, don’t try it again.

All you need to do to get this started is the 120 GB drive and the transfer cable. Here is what you need to do:

  1. First things first, turn the power off to the Xbox, and better yet, unplug it.
  2. Make sure nothing is plugged into any of the USB ports. You know you can never be too careful.
  3. Flip the new drive upside-down and connect the transfer cable.
  4. Take the other end of the cable and plug it into one of the USB ports on the 360. So now you should have the transfer cable connected to your drive and the powerless Xbox.
  5. Plug in and power on your system.
  6. Connect a controller, either wireless or wired.
  7. Insert the Hard Drive Transfer Disc, run the program, and the on-screen instructions will steer you through the rest of the process.
  8. Now go ahead and fill up that new Hard Drive.
