Building New Features with Django

March 18th, 2008 · No Comments

I got an interesting email from a person that was viewing my Ultimate Guitar Hero site (www.ultimate-guitarhero.com). The questions was more or less a statement that said “Can’t you come up with some cool stuff to do on the site”. The user, Chimee, asked the following question: “Is it possible to add more to the site than simple just news and tricks?”. So that got me thinking, well of course it’s possible, but what things might a person browsing a guitar hero site might want to see? Well that got me thinking even more, and since the site is built with Django, it got me thinking even more about all the cool things I can do, but haven’t tried yet. So here a few things I hope to with my Django site.

  • Allow users to submit their favorite song they want to see in upcoming guitar hero versions
  • Allow users to vote on those songs
  • Create a map of where Guitar Hero players are
  • Add the ability for users to register their Guitar Hero event

That should be enough for right now. The first thing I’m going to get started on is the option where people can add their favorite songs to be included on upcoming games. If anything it’s a good experiment for working with Django and gives the reading population a little more to have fun with.
